Defining the psychoanalytic 'listening' is extremely difficult. However, I consider 'listening' as the very core of psychoanalysis and what distinguishes psychoanalysis from any other approach. A couple of days ago the journal "Research on Social Work Practice" published my paper on the development of a (psychoanalytic) listening scale. This uni-dimensional scale only represents a "early" stage toward a definition of psychoanalytic listening. Likely, psychoanalytic listening encompasses more dimensions, not just one.
